"Naked . . . "

Greetings,

The Christmas trees are all gone.

There is morning light pouring through my bedroom window, now
that the three foot magnolia wreath has been taken down.

There are no garlands on the bookcases in the library.

The house lets out a quiet sigh.

"Whew."

Having shed all of it's holiday finery, it's almost like the house is naked.

And it's wonderfully invigorating.

and a new year begins,

I agree. As much as I love the holidays I'm always happy to have a clean, clear house and head. Happy New Year!

My Mom always says that January is the month to redesign your house. People feel lost with out all of the extra decor...

Fun pic :)
It is a perfect time to shed unneeded and unwanted clutter, both physically and metaphorically...

I could not agree more Scot....I enjoy taking the decorations down as much as I do putting them up...which then leads to clearing out my closet and old makeup, the fridge...everything to make space for the New Year.

i wish i could be so philosophical! i want to leave my tree up year 'round, but that would be weird, so into it's myriad boxes it's gone, packed away for one more year.

next year though, i'm putting it up on halloween!
I'm having enough trouble staying warm inside. Your photo makes me shiver!!!

I agree -- the house always looks so bare after the christmas things are put away. And then it is the time that I clean and rearrange . . . so sometimes the house looks even barer! But a house should change . . . and taking down Christmas and the house seems more sparse in January is as it should be. January is a cold sparse month!

My first visit to your blog -- I'm glad I found you!

Beautiful picture. In Kansas City many brave souls take the plunge for charity on New Year's Day. This year it was really cold for them. Isn't it great when our homes breaths a sigh of relief that all the Christmas is down?
